The Oboe Band

Sarah Humphrys, Frances Norbury & Joel Raymond – Oboe

Rebecca Stockwell - Bassoon

 

The Oboe Band was founded in 2005 to revive the once hugely-popular ensemble of oboes and bassoon, to rediscover its considerable repertoire and to bring its unique and beautiful sound world to as many people as possible. Since 2006 they have been Ensemble in Residence at the Royal College of Music, promoting historical wind playing and teaching and coaching students. In 2007 The Oboe Band were finalists in the York Early Music Competition. They have given concerts and workshops throughout the UK, in the London Handel Festival, Concerts in the West, the Mayfield Festival and at Huddersfield University.

Some members will remember the Oboe Band when they played at our Festival Evensong in 2007.

Rowena Calvert – Cello

Alison Rhind – Piano

 

Rowena Calvert has just completed her undergraduate degree at the RNCM with a first degree (honours) and after receiving 100% in her final recital was awarded the Leonard Rose Award 2006, the Sir John Barbirolli Prize 2008 and the RNCM Gold Medal 2008. She has recently been invited to be a part of the Countess of Munster Recital Scheme. Rowena has performed concertos with the London Mozart Players, the Guildford Symphony Orchestra, Edinburgh Festival Orchestra, The Covent Garden Actors Orchestra and the RNCM Symphony Orchestra.

Alison Rhind was educated at Chetham's School of Music, Oxford University and the Guildhall School of Music. From 1993 until 2006 she was the accompanist at the Yehudi Menuhin School. Alison is regularly invited to work at the Royal College of Music in London and was recently asked to be the official accompanist for the String Final Recitals.

The Piatti String Quartet

 

We are delighted to welcome this excellent group of young musicians who are coming in place of the previously advertised Badke Quartet.

Over the past three years the Piatti String Quartet has worked extensively throughout the UK and Europe. In 2008 they reached the finals of the Tunnell Trust Competition.  They have performed in venues all around London including St Martins-in-the-field, St James Piccadilly and Senate House. They are also busy working for various festivals and concert series have most recently performed at the Northern Aldborough Festival and the Brantwood Concert Series.

The Piatti quartet  members are ex or current award winning students of the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music where they have studied with members of the  Chilingirian Quartet., Amadeus Quartet, Alberni Quartet and the Vellinger Quartet. In 2007 The Royal Collage of Music commissioned them to premier the recording of the William Hurlstone String Quartet, marking the composer’s centenary.  Between them they hold a range of prizes including MBF Awards, Martin Musical Scholarship Awards, Croydon Concerto 1st Prize and Making Music Award. 

The Piatti String Quartet is extremely grateful for the generosity and support of Ian Ellis.

The programme will include Mozart Quartet K426 in D, Britten String Quartet No.1 and the Mendelssohn Quartet in A minor.
