The London Handel Singers & Local Schools

At this time
of year when we remember that there was no room at the inn, there were nearly house
full signs at Tilford
Parish Church
for the afternoon and evening celebrations of the Tilford Bach Society’s
Carols by Candlelight.
Each year we
look forward in the afternoon to the part played by the pupils from All
Saints’ Infants and Waverley
Abbey Schools,
and we were not disappointed. Fifteen young stars from All Saints’ sang
three songs complete with an accompaniment by an orchestra of kazoos and tuned
reception desk bells. Definitely a first there! And there was some spectacular
arm-waving choreography which impressed the professional choir. The twenty-five
children from Waverley Abbey sang two numbers
from their Christmas show, and for the finale we were privileged to hear a song
composed by one of the pupils which had previously been performed in Guildford
Cathedral accompanied by the Guildford
Philharmonic Orchestra.
In the
evening, the congregational Christmas hymns, and carols sung by the London Handel Singers
were interwoven with readings on the theme of Home for Christmas drawn from a diverse range of authors from
Richmal Crompton to G.K.Chesterton. A retiring collection realised £600
to be divided between CHASE and Christian Aid.
